El tema del desarrollo sustentable ha sido ampliamente discutido en las ultimas decadas. La perspectiva de genero senala que el discurso del desarrollo es androcentrico y, como tal, limitam las posibilidades de vida de las mujeres. Para que haya una propuesta de desarrollo sustentable con enfoque de genero es necesario hacer de las necesidades de las mujeres una prioridad; modificar aquellas necesidades masculinas que constituyan mecanismos de opresion de las mujeres; y dirigir las necesitades comunitarias, nacionales y mundiales hacia el desarrollo humano de ambos sexos.
