Abstract
This article excavates memories of Rome’s Seventh Township, a historically working-class neighbourhood in the south-east quarter of Rome which grew rapidly in the 1930s. It traces the substratum of identity in a neighbourhood characterised by militant resistance, labour and youth movements and a shifting, mobile immigrant population. I argue that while the melting pot of cultures and traditions in the neighbourhood has generated new hybrid identities, it has not produced a stratum of shared cultural memories.
