Abstract
Cet article vise à situer sur le plan méthodologique notre travail de thèse. Deux questions de méthode seront ainsi abordées à partir de la migration des musiciens français en Allemagne du Nord (1660-1730). La question des échelles géographiques, cruciale pour un travail sur l’Empire où les espaces politiques sont souvent difficiles à appréhender pour le chercheur français, fait l’objet d’un premier pan de la réflexion. À travers plusieurs cas d’étude, nous tenterons de situer quelques échelles pertinentes pour aborder les circulations musicales dans l’Europe moderne. Dans un second temps, l’article explore les possibilités ouvertes par une approche qui combine une histoire culturelle portant sur les transferts musicaux franco-allemands, avec l’étude des circulations humaines et l’application de quelques outils prosopographiques au groupe social formé par les musiciens français.
