Abstract
La compréhension de l’assistance secrète offerte par les États-Unis à la France pour le développement de son armement nucléaire durant les années 1970 impose de dissocier les niveaux politique et exécutif. Au niveau exécutif, la nature technocratique de cette assistance se révèle extrêmement bénéfique pour les Français. Une mise en contexte historique de cette technocratie et une relecture des archives disponibles concernant l’assistance permettent de démontrer l’influence positive de certains technocrates américains, en particulier celle de John Foster Jr., à l’époque numéro trois du département de la Défense, que cela concerne les relations avec les Français ou la synergie avec le Conseil de sécurité nationale.
