Abstract
The development of a contraceptive pill for men was given a whole lot of publicity a couple of weeks ago. This led, of course, to a lively debate about the general sexual trustworthiness of men, as if no woman had ever been economic with the truth about her contraceptive status. What a bunch of cynics and hypocrites we can be when it comes to sexual matters. Astoundingly ill-informed, too, for these supposedly enlightened times. Someone from the Terrence Higgins Trust cited a survey recently showing that 62 per cent of 18 to 24 year olds feel they do not have enough information about the risks of unprotected sex. This seems shocking but is perhaps borne out by statistics showing a startling rise in sexually transmitted diseases.
