Abstract
Nous analysons les profonds changements qui caractérisent la structure sociale de la société québécoise entre 1971 et 2011. Une véritable mutation macrosociale l’a complètement transformée, d’abord visible dans la croissance des effectifs au sein des échelons élevés de la hiérarchie sociale et dans l’avènement d’une nouvelle strate sociale, celle des techniciens. La classe des employés de bureau a rétréci, glissant du 2e rang au 5e rang et la taille de la classe ouvrière a régressée de manière considérable. L’un des aspects les plus marquants est sans contredit la féminisation de la structure sociale et surtout, la forte poussée de la présence des femmes aux échelons moyens et élevés de la hiérarchie sociale. Une nouvelle division du travail selon le sexe est en train de s’accentuer. La classe ouvrière est encore plus masculine que par le passé alors que deux autres strates sociales – celle des employés de bureau et celle des professionnels intermédiaires – sont davantage féminisées.
