Abstract
La guerra de los Mil Dias, acaecida entre 1899y 1902, el episodio mas traumático de la contienda civil en la historia Colombiana y una de las más amargas y prolongadas guerras en Latinoamérica, fué el punto central de un período de transició¡¡ entre el final de la era liberal en 1885 y el restablecimiento de la paz y la integración en Colombia dentro de una economía de exportación, alrededor de 1910. Estudios recientes de Charles Bergquist, Marco Palacios y José Antonio Ocampo han concluído que los orígenes de la guerra están íntimamente relacionados con la incorporación de Colombía a la economía del Atlántico Norte!. Estos autores enfatizando el desarrollo de la industria cafetera y analízando los aspectos económicos y fiscales, produjeron una interpretación mas compleja que las tradicionales afirmaciones de que la guerra era un resultado de la búsqueda de despojos', o de animosidades entre liberales y conservadores.
