Abstract
<p>\n\tAanleiding van dit artikel is de behandeling van het wetsvoorstel lesbisch ouderschap in de Eerste Kamer en de daar gehouden deskundigenbijeenkomst in juni 2013. Het wetsvoorstel roept vragen op met betrekking tot de betekenis van juridisch ouderschap (gebaseerd op biologie of/en op sociale werkelijkheid) en over de rol die de verschillende ouders in het recht en de praktijk kunnen spelen met betrekking tot het kind. In deze bijdrage wordt gekeken naar wat dit betekent voor het huidige wetsvoorstel en voor toekomstige ontwikkelingen op het gebied van het afstammingsrecht. In het kader van mogelijke toekomstige ontwikkelingen wordt nader ingegaan op de recent in British Columbia, Canada in werking getreden Family Law Act, die de weg naar meer dan twee ouders opent op basis van een overeenkomst aangegaan tussen de intentionele ouders voor de conceptie van het kind. Het doel van deze bijdrage is de discussie over het wetsvoorstel in de literatuur en de Eerste Kamer kritisch te beschouwen en in het bredere kader van het afstammingsrecht te plaatsen. Daarnaast wordt gekeken naar de toekomst van het afstammingsrecht - mede in internationaal perspectief - en of dit al dan niet aan herziening toe is.</p>\n
