Abstract
Joy Margaret Randall was born in 1943 in Cobourg, a small town in Ontario, Canada. After graduating from Belleville Nursing School in 1962, she enrolled into both the Presbyterian Church in Toronto to study theology and Christian education and the University of Alberta to study obstetric nursing.Her mother church was the Canadian Presbyterian Church Overseas Mission, and she chose to be sent to work in Nigeria. At that time, however, Nigeria was at war, so by the suggestion of an experienced missionary, she decided to go to Taiwan-Formosa. She spent two years learning Taiwanese through Romanization in Taiwan Theological College and Seminary, and received training in communication in Taiwanese at Mackay Memorial Hospital. In October 1971, invited by Dr. David Landsborough IV, founder and superintendent of Changhua Christian Hospital, the first western medical hospital in central Taiwan, she and several other foreign missionaries took root and worked together here.
