Abstract
Bien es sabido que existen hitos fundamentales en la dinámica de la sociedad, a partir de los cuales se producen giros en el modo de abordar los variados y múltiples desafíos que configuran la realidad humana. Por cierto que el campo de la salud no ha sido ajeno a ese fenómeno, como se demuestra con la aparición de la propuesta de la Nueva Salud Pública, concepto y práctica que resultan de la aplicación, en principio, de la Atención Primaria de la Salud y, fundamentalmente, de las directivas contenidas en la Carta de Ottawa de 1986 y reforzada por las nueve Conferencias Internacionales sobre Promoción de Salud convocadas por la OMS, con participación, en algunas oportunidades, de los organismos regionales como la OPS, y aplicando el concepto, extensivo de acuerdo a las acciones y responsabilidades, de la salud pública no solo como la salud de la población sino, también, como la salud generada por la población.
