Abstract
The article draws attention to the close relationship between rights and duties, in other words, between freedom and truth. As regard these issues the Magisterium has always been very clear: freedom denies itself when it neither recognizes nor respects its essential connection with truth. The long dialectical tension between Church and Modernity has reached its zenith on these issues. During this process, the author reflects in order to offer some indications which orient us in the field of human rights at the present time and in the near future.
