Average breast permittivity measurements: Preliminary results from current patient study

Abstract
Previously, we reported a system to estimate the average permittivity from measurements of signals transmitted through the breast. Preliminary results measured from healthy volunteers are presented and discussed. Stable permittivity values are found for multiple scans of the same volunteer, while differences between left and right breasts are usually less than 10%. In the case of a volunteer with a history of breast cancer, we observed an increase permittivity of the affected breast compared to the contralateral breast. This observation suggests that the received treatment modified the breast tissue composition.
