Abstract
Les sanctuaires égyptiens accueillaient des animaux sacrés « uniques » et des animaux sacralisés « multiples ». L’ensemble du dossier concernant la répression des violences envers ces animaux sacralisés dans l’Égypte ptolémaïque, comporte des sources littéraires gréco-latines et des sources documentaires grecques et égyptiennes. Il ne permet pas de conclure à l’existence de la peine de mort pour le meurtre des animaux sacralisés « multiples ». Le témoignage de Diodore, très souvent invoqué, illustre en fait une affaire de lynchage par une foule déchaînée à Alexandrie, et non le résultat d’une hypothétique sanction judicaire. Les témoignages documentaires papyrologiques, grecs et démotiques, n’en font pas mention.
