Abstract
Canadian cancer patients suffering pain are now being offered an oral spray based on cannabis to help relieve their symptoms. Canada approved a cannabis-derived medication to alleviate severe multiple sclerosis pain back in 2005. However, patients in the UK are unlikely to gain access to the same therapy any time soon: there have been reports of cannabis being a poor analgesic and demands by the UK’s Medicines and Healthcare products Regulatory Agency (MHRA) for more data have led the maker of the spray to withdraw its EU licence application.
