Cet article montre les limites de l’institutionnalisation de l’approche globale dans la pratique des militaires européens en opération. Une analyse d’EUFOR Tchad/ RCA fait ressortir deux observations contrastées. Certes, l’approche globale trouve un écho favorable auprès des militaires européens, en ce qu’elle leur permet de développer de nouvelles compétences professionnelles et sociales au contact les uns des autres et avec les autres acteurs du champ de la sécurité européenne. L’approche globale est une norme qui contribue pour les militaires à donner du sens au rôle de l’UE comme acteur de la gestion des crises. Cependant, sa mise en œuvre sur le terrain donne lieu à un assemblage de pratiques diverses et au rejet par les militaires d’un certain nombre de ses principes, dès lors que ces derniers mettent en danger la conduite des opérations.
