Abstract
Chez les Juifs, avec le temps, les éloges funèbres seront élevés au rang d’art. Lorsqu’on tente de retracer l’origine de ceux-ci, c’est dans les chants funèbres et les complaintes du deuil qu’on doit chercher. Cet article présente l’évolution des éloges funèbres dans le monde juif, de la période biblique jusqu’à nos jours, en portant une attention particulière au contenu des éloges et à leur destinataire. On pourra constater ici que cette prise de parole, fût-elle jadis chantée, a continuellement maintenu l’objectif de rendre honneur au défunt, de réconforter les endeuillés et de rappeler des principes moralisateurs.
