Entre julio y diciembre de 2004, se realizaron muestreos de aves en 12 fincas ganaderas del Pacífico Central de Costa Rica, para evaluar la riqueza y la abundancia de gremios de aves y la presencia de especies de importancia para la conservación. Para el muestreo de aves se establecieron parcelas en todos los usos de la tierra existentes dentro de cada finca, y en el centro de éstas se ubicaron puntos de conteo de aves con un radio fijo de 25 m, haciendo registros durante 10 minutos. Se encontró que el gremio más abundante es el de las insectívoras y se registraron 23 especies de importancia para la conservación. Se concluye que para la conservación de estas especies, resulta fundamental la conservación de los relictos de bosque dentro de este tipo de sistemas productivos.
