Abstract
Le compositeur John Rea est un intellectuel qui puise ses influences et sa pensée dans plusieurs champs de connaissance. Nous l’avons invité à dresser des listes de livres selon quelques critères choisis : son passé d’étudiant, ses préoccupations actuelles, les livres qui l’accompagnent depuis longtemps, ses livres précieux, ses recommandations aux amateurs de musique, aux étudiants en musique, ses livres préférés. Chaque catégorie est ensuite discutée pour en saisir les aspects importants pour lui. Il en ressort un parcours intellectuel peu banal marqué par la curiosité de comprendre le monde et d’en tirer des analogies pour son propre travail.
