Abstract
Une ethnographie des gardiens de la paix bruxellois, couplée à une analyse de leurs rapports, permet un éclairage critique de l’action publique à différents niveaux. (1) Ces marcheurs professionnels sont les emblèmes humains d’une action publique qu’ils représentent davantage qu’ils ne l’exercent. (2) Les déplacements de ces marcheurs participent de méta-enquêtes plus que d’enquêtes en prise sur des situations troubles ou problématiques. (3) Leur marche combine des rapports entre vision et visibilité et entre visibilité et invisibilité. (4) La mise en marche de ces agents produit une « mécanique de la marche » qui s’accompagne de dynamiques de subjectivation.
