Abstract
Cet article revisite les principales crises financières internationales à travers le prisme du séquençage des réformes mises en œuvre. Il prolonge les travaux d'Edwards et met en évidence une non-linéarité de l'effet de la libéralisation financière sur les pressions spéculatives. L'étude empirique démontre la prééminence des modèles à seuils par rapport aux modèles linéaires conventionnels dans l'explication des tensions spéculatives. Nous identifions le degré optimal de l'ouverture commerciale compatible avec une libéralisation financière. Cette situation optimale amène moins d'accroissement des tensions de change qu'une situation sans réalisation ex ante d'intégration commerciale.
