Abstract
真正細菌, 真核生物と並ぶ第3の生物, 古細菌 (アーキア) は, 形態的に細菌でありながら, その遺伝情報伝達系に関わるタンパク質因子の構造が真核生物で見られる物によく類似しているという事実は, 最近のいくつかの古細菌での全ゲノム配列決定で確実なものとなり, その結果古細菌のセントラルドグマ解析の重要性が再認識されている。また, 好熱性古細菌由来の安定なタンパク質は, 構造生物学の実験材料として大変適しており, 好熱性古細菌を用いたDNA複製, 組換えなどの分子生物学は, 現在急速に進展し始めた。本稿では筆者らの研究を中心に, 古細菌のDNA複製起点の同定, 複製関連蛋白質の生化学的解析について最近の世界の進捗状況を紹介する。
