Abstract
When the United Nations (UN) endorsed the "responsibility to protect (R2P)" framework at the 2005 World Summit, collective international responsibility to prevent atrocity crimes took precedence over the assumption of noninterference into the affairs of sovereign states. It was a sea change in international affairs achieved in five years, and it would not have come about without the support of philanthropy. The Carnegie Corporation, William and Flora Hewlett Foundation, MacArthur Foundation, Rockefeller Foundation, and Simons Foundation all supported the International Commission on Intervention and State Sovereignty (ICISS), launched by the government of Canada in 2000.1 The ICISS report formulated the responsibility to protect, prevent, and rebuild doctrine that has now achieved worldwide acceptance.KeywordsUnited NationsInternational Criminal CourtInternational CriminalRome StatuteChild SoldierThese keywords were added by machine and not by the authors.
