Abstract
This paper reports on the findings of a qualitative survey among French and Quebecois young people aged between 18 and 24, concerning their social usage of the digital camera and camcorder. It emerges that these usages respond mainly to anthropological needs linked to the passage to adulthood, such as the symbolic marking of changes in status, the production of interaction rituals proper to the young and the invention of new modes of self-discovery. Hidden behind new forms of behavior is the will to respond to questions relatively common among young generations.
