Abstract
For the last several years, the development of potent, orally administered renin inhibitors has been advancing rapidly, and the first drug of this class was recently approved for use by the FDA. These renin inhibitors have potent blood pressure reducing effects, and also possess beneficial effects on the heart and kidney. The purpose of this review is to summarize the current knowledge on this new treatment, and to describe possible future applications.
