Les enfants adoptés à l’international sont confrontés à de nombreuses inconnues en ce qui a trait à leur histoire et tout particulièrement à leur filiation. Ils doivent alors avoir davantage recours à leur imagination et à une fantasmatique intérieure afin de construire leur identité. La présente étude a pour but de mettre en lumière quelle fonction occupe la famille biologique dans l’économie psychique des adolescents adoptés à l’international. Des entrevues semi-structurées ont été menées auprès de 13 adolescents adoptés de pays d’Asie. L’analyse thématique de ces données indique que, grâce à la fantasmatique développée autour de la famille d’origine, les jeunes adoptés à l’international parviennent à se renarcissiser devant les écueils, le non-dit et l’absence d’information vis-à-vis leur filiation d’origine et les circonstances entourant leur adoption. Les implications cliniques sont discutées et des recommandations sont formulées.
