Introduction/Contexte : l’évolution de la maladie cancéreuse aboutit parfois à l’extériorisation de la tumeur à la peau, créant une plaie cancéreuse. Peu de données décrivent les stratégies d’adaptation que vont utiliser les individus pour faire face à cette situation. Objectif : l’objectif principal est de déterminer les différentes stratégies d’adaptation employées par les patients porteurs de plaies cancéreuses, et les liens avec leurs caractéristiques cliniques et sociodémographiques. L’objectif secondaire est de documenter l’image corporelle de ces individus. Matériel/méthode : une étude analytique a été proposée à 21 patients présentant une plaie cancéreuse, hospitalisés en oncologie médicale. Les versions françaises de l’échelle de stratégies d’ajustement de Vitaliano et de l’échelle de l’image corporelle ( Body Image Scale ) ont été utilisées. Résultats : les patients porteurs de plaie cancéreuse font appel aux trois stratégies de coping : problème, émotionnel et recherche de soutien social. La douleur au niveau de la plaie est associée positivement à un coping émotionnel, et l’ancienneté du diagnostic de cancer à une recherche de soutien social. L’image corporelle semble altérée. Discussion/Conclusion : l’ajustement à la plaie cancéreuse semble possible avec l’apport de soins de support tels que le soulagement de la douleur et/ou la relation d’aide. Une étude nationale tente actuellement de généraliser ces résultats.
