Les communautés thérapeutiques existent depuis les années 1940. Destinées à modifier les hôpitaux asilaires du milieu du siècle, elles ont ensuite quitté ces lieux pour offrir aux patients psychotiques une inscription dans la cité. Souvent installées dans de petites structures (maisons), elles ont approfondi différentes approches psychodynamiques susceptibles de répondre aux besoins de personnes stabilisées, mais insatisfaites de leur qualité de vie, ou en crise. Cet ouvrage rend compte des interrogations et des analyses des professionnels exerçant dans diverses communautés thérapeutiques au Québec, en France, en Belgique et en Suisse. Il a pour ambition de transmettre leurs fondements théoriques et leurs objectifs, l’évolution clinique de leurs résidents et les questions soulevées par leur accompagnement. Malgré les philosophies de soins et les modalités d’intervention actuelles qui reposent sur l’approche bio-sociale, les communautés thérapeutiques pour psychotiques ont persisté dans leur démarche et n’ont pas perdu leur pertinence. Les auteurs montrent que ces lieux de vie où intervenants et résidents se stimulent les uns et les autres dans le cadre d’une coexistence commune et d’une relation thérapeutique vivante, laissent à tous la liberté de penser et d’agir. Les deux auteurs ont travaillé pendant plus de trente ans dans des communautés thérapeutiques, respectivement, à Montréal (Québec) et à Villeurbanne.
