O presente artigo pretende desenvolver uma reflexao em torno da tematica da exclusao social juvenil em Portugal, partindo de uma discussao teorica dos conceitos em presenca. A exclusao social juvenil sera apresentada como um fenomeno mu/dimensional no qual se encerram e entretecem velhas e novas problematicas. Por fim, ensaia-se uma tentativa de colocar alguns pontos de analise da intervencao, avancando com um conjunto de pistas para o reequacionamento da mesma. Conclui-se que a transformacao das sociedades modernas podera constituir uma oportunidade para o Servico Social se reafirmar enquanto campo de concepcao de politicas sociais e enquanto profissao privilegiada de resposta as necessidades efectivas dos cidadaos.
