Abstract
Aided by an analysis of the asymmetrical partnership between two firms (Nortel and Geodis), this article aims to demonstrate the existence of expenditures and destruction of wealth without immediate compensation effected by the smaller for the more powerful. To explain the existence of these very specific provisions, the authors refer to the theory of religious sacrifice developed by Hubert and Mauss, adapted and defined in the framework of management. In this perspective, the authors present the nature of managerial sacrifice and elaborate on the purposes, the principal one being communion, meaning the construction and the restoration of the social link between the stakeholders. It is the finding that the Nortel-Geodis asymmetrical alliance was able to develop despite very serious crises, because Geodis made sacrifices to maintain good relations with Nortel.
