La création de bases de données locales à partir d’un télédéchargement suscite de plus en plus l’intérêt des spécialistes de l’information. Le texte qui suit analyse les différentes facettes de cette question. Suite à un exposé historique du processus de création de bases de données par télédéchargement, les étapes sont expliquées et l’on présente quelques types de logiciel de télécommunications. La deuxième partie comprend la définition et le rôle de la conversion. On met l’accent sur les aspects techniques qui composent le traitement des données télédéchargées. Plusieurs exemples illustrent ce procédé. La troisième partie expose une brève revue historique de la loi américaine du droit d’auteur et aborde les problèmes légaux liés aux différents types de télédéchargement. Les préoccupations des producteurs et des serveurs sont signalées de même que les diverses actions entreprises pour tenter de contrôler le télédéchargement.
