Capital Inflows and Growth: Evidence from Pre-Crises ASEAN Economies
Bibliographic record
Abstract
AbstractThis chapter uses an endogenous growth framework to examine the effects of the different types of long-term capital inflows (foreign investment, foreign aid and long-term debt capital) on the long-term growth performance of Indonesia, Malaysia, Philippines and Thailand over the period 1970–96, which preceded their financial crises. Its econometric analysis uses stationary tests, cointegration and ECM modeling, as well as VAR techniques and causality tests. Our findings support the endogenous growth arguments for Malaysia, Philippines and Thailand but do not support them for Indonesia. For all four countries, significant positive causation runs from equity capital, public capital and openness to per capita income growth, while long-term debt capital inflows had adverse or insignificant effects on growth.

Teacher imitationNot calibrated prevalence, not ground truth. Human validation pending. Learned from the 10,348 direct Codex labels and 10,348 direct Gemma labels. Candidate is the union of thresholded teacher heads; consensus is their intersection. These outputs are machine_predicted_unvalidated and are not human labels or direct frontier model labels.

Machine scores (provisional)
The two teacher heads of the student model, read on this work. A score orders the frame for review; it never asserts a category, and the validation status ships verbatim with every row.
Baseline scores from an immature model (maturity gate not passed, 7 training rounds). Scores rank; they never assert a category.
score_only:v0-immature-baseline · verbatim from the scoring run: score_only means the number may rank works, and no category label ships from itClassification
machine, unvalidatedMachine predicted; both teacher heads agree on what is shown here.
