Abstract
In just two years, between October 1928 and October 1930, the high international airship hopes of the previous decade attained both resounding achievement and ill-starred misadventure. The new Graf Zeppelin crossed the north and south Atlantic and flew spectacularly around the world. The Americans completed their own ultra-modern airship construction works and began building their first naval superairship. Britain finally launched both of its state-of-the-art airships. One completed a round-trip flight to Canada. The other foundered three months later en route to India. All these events quickened national enthusiasms and fostered international political posturing, both positive and negative. It was the brief culmination of global skyward airship rivalry.
