Abstract
Periprosthetic femoral fractures after hip replacement are a serious surgical entity that may prove difficult to treat and cause significant patient morbidity. Although there are multiple treatment approaches presented to the orthopedic surgeon, sound data of the most stable construct is limited in the literature. The evidence-based treatment for Vancouver type B1 fractures is open reduction and internal fixation. In this article, we present a novel approach for the stabilization of Vancouver type B1 fractures with lateral plate, flared medial strut allograft, Dall-miles cables, and multiple screws securing the plate-femur-allograft components and bypassing the hip implant.
