Abstract
Technology and geography have developed at the same time. Several different eras based on technological change can be identified. Common threads can be found in the development and the use of lantern slides, films, broadcasting and the internet that have promoted or hindered their development and use in schools. Furthermore, the development of the Geographical Association (GA) can be associated with these technological changes. The use of technology offers many new and exciting ways of learning and teaching which are as yet not fully utilised. This article argues that ‘shaped’ and sustainable technologies could be the way forward.
