Abstract
Abstract This chapter discusses the relative impact of incest in grooming girls for sexual abuse, including prostitution; Aboriginal women's poverty pushing women into unsafe, unwise relationships and situations; men's claim to sex on demand and sex for money; colonialist and sexist practices and attitudes within state institutions from which women seek help; and the unrelenting rates of sexual violence by men of all ‘races’ against women, in particular against Aboriginal women. Rape is the responsibility of the men who commit it. But those in power collude by rendering women vulnerable to attack, by failing to protect women from men, and by inadequately responding to the injustices committed against women, both individually and collectively.
