Abstract
Après la Révolution de février 1917, alors que les États-Unis viennent d’entrer en guerre avec l’objectif avoué de réformer les relations entre les peuples et que le front russe s’anéantit, il devient impératif pour les Américains de soutenir le gouvernement provisoire contre les forces réclamant un armistice. Inspiré par un de ses proches amis, un philanthrope du nom de Charles R. Crane, le président Woodrow Wilson envoie une délégation diplomatique chargée de convaincre les Russes de poursuivre la guerre. Or, parmi elle se trouvent plus que des diplomates. Des représentants des cercles missionnaires, incluant Crane, donnent à cette tournée un aspect méconnu qui révèle un des traits essentiels du wilsonisme : sa dimension chrétienne et humanitaire comme pierre d’assise d’un nouvel ordre mondial.
