Abstract
Abstract This chapter illustrates the experiences of Filipino families waiting to reunite after being separated for many years. It describes what mothers and children reunited in Canada are saying about the difficulties of maintaining intimate relationships across space and time, and the sense of loss that this entails. Most of the Filipino domestic workers interviewed for this research were rarely able to visit their children in the Philippines. They often visited their children once every three years due to the high cost of the airfare between Canada and the Philippines. Mothers spoke of their efforts to keep in touch with their children through letters, cards on special occasions, photographs, tape recordings, webcam, telephone conversations, and text messaging.
