Abstract
Having surveyed the evolution of the meanings that informed the Anglican mission to the indigenous communities of North America and the role they played in the decision to partner with the Canadian state in the running of the residential schools, we now proceed to the heart of our analysis. Over the course of the subsequent chapters, the protracted symbolic process by which Church representatives eventually rejected the residential schools and the wider civilizing mission will be discussed.
