Abstract
A agressividade canina e a principal queixa nos servicos especializados de etologia clinica e tem um significativo impacto em saude publica. O objetivo do presente estudo foi buscar diferencas no perfil psicologico das pessoas que escolhem uma raca ou outra. Para isso, pessoas que compraram filhotes de Retriever do Labrador, Cocker Spaniel Ingles, Bull Terrier e Rottweiler foram convidadas a responder a dois testes psicologicos, o Inventario Multifasico de Personalidade Minesota (MMPI) e o Questionario de Agressividade. Os respondentes foram divididos em dois grupos, um que escolheu racas de companhia (Labrador e Cocker) e o outro que escolheu racas de Guarda ou Briga (Rottweiler e Bull Terrier). Houve diferenca significativa entre os grupos. Os que escolheram caes de companhia apresentaram maiores coeficientes para hostilidade. Tal resultado demonstra que ha diferenca no perfil das pessoas que escolhem as racas, o que pode ser uma importante influencia para o comportamento desses animais.
