L’apprentissage des marques graphiques du français semble s’organiser au long de la scolarité selon certains critères implicites (degré de simplicité, de régularité, etc.). La nécessaire contestation d’une telle progression se heurte à la difficulté de résoudre de nombreuses contradictions (entre par exemple le degré de fréquence et celui de régularité). Il parait néanmoins possible de proposer une progression qui distingue des savoirs fondamentaux (comme les marques du pluriel du genre nominal, ou celles de l’accord de la 3e personne du verbe) dont l’absence d’automatisation compromet l’acquisition d’autres connaissances graphiques.
