Ce memoire de maitrise en intervention sociale a ete presente a l'Universite du Quebec a Montreal (UQAM). L'auteure de cette recherche qualitative explore la complexite des liens entre analphabetisme et emploi dans un contexte nord-americain, les consequences de ces liens en termes de souffrance et d'espoir chez les personnes analphabetes, et les alternatives a examiner pour renouveler les pratiques et politiques sociales. L'auteure espere que les resultats de cette etude apporteront une contribution au debat actuel sur la lutte contre la pauvrete et ameneront des retombees positives dans les conditions de vie des personnes analphabetes.
