Abstract
The postwar Japanese political economy was substantially defined by Cold War politics and US hegemony. Following its defeat in World War II, Japan was occupied by Allied forces, primarily US forces, while the Japanese economy had been completely devastated as a result of the war. The immediate objective of the postwar Japanese government was therefore to seek Japan’s political independence and economic recovery. As such, Washington’s policy of revitalizing Japan and incorporating Japan into its security framework of the Cold War in the Far East was in line with Japan’s strategy of the time. These keywords were added by machine and not by the authors. This process is experimental and the keywords may be updated as the learning algorithm improves.
