Abstract
Le romancier équatorien Javier Vásconez exploite dans son œuvre de nouvelles techniques et de nouvelles thématiques pour échapper à une pesante tradition littéraire et pour donner de la visibilité à ses textes de fiction. Il cherche à la fois à dialoguer avec les grands noms de la littérature universelle et à présenter l’Équateur sous un aspect inédit. Javier Vásconez invente ainsi une nouvelle géographie de son pays et il met en valeur une thématique inversée par rapport à celle qui est traditionnellement proposée par le courant de l’indigénisme. L’intertextualité revisitée par Javier Vásconez propulse des romanciers étrangers au rang de personnages de fiction : les personnages d’origine européenne ou nord-américaine, fictifs ou inspirés d’auteurs connus, sont mis en valeur alors que les autochtones, indigènes, Blancs ou métis, sont réduits à des ombres fugitives et ne sont que des éléments du décor.
