Abstract

fetched live from OpenAlex

In this chapter, the author discusses how Lean is applied to management processes and how the use of Hoshin Kanri reduces the waste in those processes and the waste in the entire organization. Pascal Dennis, who worked at Toyota Motor Manufacturing Canada and later went on to author several Shingo prize-winning books on Lean including Lean Production Simplified and The Remedy, coached and shaped the author thinking around Lean. The purpose of Hoshin Kanri is to crystallize the strategy of the organization and to engage the power of the people to pull the organization into the future. Toyota’s countermeasure to the common strategic planning problems is Hoshin Kanri. The original document was almost 900 pages long—so long, in fact, that no one could read it and therefore make either head or tails of it. Catchball is a process that links the strategies to the functional organization and allows them to be deployed throughout the organization.

Not calibrated prevalence, not ground truth. Human validation pending. Learned from the 10,348 direct Codex labels and 10,348 direct Gemma labels. Candidate is the union of thresholded teacher heads; consensus is their intersection. These outputs are machine_predicted_unvalidated and are not human labels or direct frontier model labels.

Machine scores (provisional)

The two teacher heads of the student model, read on this work. A score orders the frame for review; it never asserts a category, and the validation status ships verbatim with every row.

Baseline scores from an immature model (maturity gate not passed, 7 training rounds). Scores rank; they never assert a category.
