Les études portant sur la « résurgence » des ethnicités ont pour la plupart tenté d’expliquer ce phénomène par des modifications profondes dans les structures économiques, politiques ou sociales des sociétés multi-ethniques. Très peu d’importance est attachée à la dynamique socio-économique qui caractérise pourtant chaque groupe ethnique. A partir de l’analyse de la genèse de l’ethnicité haïtienne au Québec, cet article montrera que cette dynamique intra-ethnique peut prendre la forme d’un processus de contrôle, de la part d’une petite bourgeoisie ethnique, d’un marché ethnique des services politiques, économiques, sociaux ou autres reposant sur une « clientèle » ethnique. Le concept d’ethnicisation nous permettra de rendre compte de la structuration d’une véritable « communauté » haïtienne.
