Abstract
The idea of a ‘new German Jewry’ is not a straightforward or obvious concept. This is particularly because I doubt whether a ‘new German Jewry’ in fact exists, whether the title is not simply wishful thinking, considering that only a tiny remnant of the pre-war community survives and is just barely able to maintain some key positions such as elected representatives and functionaries. While there is certainly a future for the Jewish community in Germany, I doubt it will have very much to do with what has traditionally been considered ‘German’ Judaism.
