Para as testemunhas do Holocausto a memória é uma questão mais que central. Sobressai-se, nos autores que viveram a shoah em primeira pessoa, um "esquecimento impossível". Em Primo Levi o empenho pela memória - própria e coletiva - assume uma dimensão moral. Quando este empenho civil pela memória desagua na literatura "clara" de Primo Levi, a memória se torna dever ótico; ainda assim, nessas obras se instaura uma relação problemática entre a experiência e a narrativa. Esse artigo procura sondar não apenas a dimensão ética, mas também a dimensão literária das obras de testemunho de Levi.
