Abstract
In 2007, Prime Minister Stephen Harper launched the Americas Strategy, which made the Americas a priority region in Canadian foreign policy. This article reviews the implementation of the strategy, and argues that it is best explained by a combination of domestic factors (such as changes in partisan politics and dominant class interests in Canada) as well as the recent shift towards a “posthegemonic” Americas, resulting from the decline of US power in the region.
