Abstract
L’article rend compte d’une recherche menée dans une cité HLM de Marseille sur le thème du sentiment d’insécurité. Cette recherche analyse les processus institutionnels et concrets à travers lesquels des accords partiels et conjoncturels peuvent être obtenus sur le sens à accorder à des faits liés aux troubles de l’ordre public ou à des conflits autour de l’accès à l’espace public. Or, le sentiment d’insécurité paraît demeurer insensible à la confrontation avec la réalité des faits. Dès lors, ce sentiment ne serait-il pas, par suite de l’effondrement des mécanismes de régulation de la vie collective, le seul moyen laissé aux populations agressées de rétablir sur un mode négatif la solidarité sans laquelle toute collectivité se désagrège ?
