Superfícies transparentes merecem especial atenção quando se trata doconforto ambiental de edificações, pois são elementos vulneráveis a ganhosde calor, principalmente em regiões tropicais. O presente trabalho tevecomo objetivo propor indicativos para o emprego apropriado de vidros epelículas de proteção solar para sua correta especificação, visando menorconsumo energético e melhor conforto ambiental em edificações. Para tal,foram avaliadas as propriedades espectrais de vidros e películas por técnicaespectrofotométrica e determinados os parâmetros de controle de ganho decarga térmica, a saber: fator solar (FS), ganho de calor solar (GCS), razão visível/infravermelho e coeficiente de sombreamento (CS). Os resultados mostraramque, para a correta escolha e especificação das superfícies transparentes,deve ser analisado o parâmetro GCS. Sugere-se, ainda, associar à essa análisevalores de transmissão (τ) no espectro visível acima de 30%.
